ABOUT OPTIO

About Optio | Talent Intelligence for Skills-Short Sectors

Better hiring conversations for skills-short markets.

Optio exists to help employers and candidates have better hiring conversations in skills-short markets.

Why we built Optio

In skills-short sectors, facilities management, engineering, field service, technical support, operations, skilled trades, the existing recruitment infrastructure is increasingly inadequate.

Job boards reach a shrinking proportion of the relevant talent. Agency fees are high and relationships are transactional. Candidate data is shallow, focused on what people have done, not what they want. Employer offer intelligence is almost entirely absent from the recruitment process.

The result is a market that generates a huge amount of activity, adverts, applications, interviews, but relatively poor outcomes. Employers fill roles with candidates who are not quite right. Candidates take jobs that are not quite what they wanted. The process starts again within months.

Optio is built to address the root cause of this problem, not just the symptoms.

Consider two sectors where this plays out differently but arrives at the same failure point. In facilities management, travel expectations are rarely surfaced before an offer is made. A candidate with a 30-minute commute tolerance is presented with a role requiring 90 minutes of daily travel. The offer is declined, the hire fails, and the employer restarts from scratch. In engineering, on-call load is a known factor affecting candidate acceptance, yet it is rarely shared as part of the initial matching process. Candidates accept roles without full clarity, and attrition follows within the first year. In both cases, the information existed. It simply was not structured, shared, or acted on at the right moment. Optio is built to change that, by making talent intelligence and structured intent data available before decisions become urgent.

The problem we saw

In skills-short markets, the strongest candidates are often already employed, selective, and invisible to reactive recruitment.

Job boards don’t reach everyone

Many relevant candidates are employed and not actively browsing listings. Others are actively looking but want to be matched on what they actually want, not just job title and location. Job boards reach neither well.

Candidate intent is invisible

Traditional recruitment data shows what people have done, but rarely what they want next, pay, training, travel, progression, culture, or timing. Understanding candidate intent data changes what is possible at every stage of the hiring process.

Employers make decisions too late

Hiring usually starts when the vacancy appears. By then, employers are under pressure, the pool is cold, and compromise becomes more likely. An always-on talent pool built before urgency strikes changes the outcome.

What Optio is

Optio is a talent intelligence and labour-market strategy platform. It is not a recruitment agency and it does not operate a job board.

For employers

Optio helps employers understand candidate reality, candidate intent, employer demand, and employer offer data before recruitment becomes urgent.

For candidates

Optio helps candidates define what a worthwhile move would look like, stay in control, and be matched only when an opportunity aligns with their priorities.

What makes Optio different

Optio is built around the time before a vacancy becomes urgent, and works for skilled people whether they are actively looking, quietly open, or harder to reach through traditional advertising.

Structured data over vague profiles

Every candidate and employer input is structured, queryable, and comparable.

Intent over availability

Understanding what people want matters as much as understanding what they have done.

Explainability over black-box matching

Every match comes with a reason. Every gap is identified. Every conversation starts from a better-informed position.

Strategy over urgency

The most effective talent decisions are made before hiring becomes urgent, not in response to an empty seat.

Fuller market, not just active applicants

Optio reaches active jobseekers, quietly open candidates and harder-to-reach skilled people, giving employers a more complete view of the available talent.

Who we work with

Employers

Hiring managers, HR leaders, business owners, operations directors, and workforce planning teams in skills-short sectors who want a more intelligent, less reactive approach to talent acquisition.

For Employers

Candidates

Skilled workers, engineers, field operatives, supervisors, managers, and technical professionals, whether actively looking, quietly open, or just curious about what better could look like, who want to be matched on what they actually want, not just their job title.

For Candidates

Common questions about Optio

What does Optio do that a recruitment agency does not?

A recruitment agency works reactively: it fills a vacancy that already exists. Optio works proactively, building structured talent intelligence before a vacancy becomes urgent. Employers gain visibility of candidate intent, market rates, and offer competitiveness in advance. Candidates define what a worthwhile move looks like on their own terms, rather than responding to adverts placed under pressure.

How does Optio reach candidates who are not actively job hunting?

Optio uses a structured consent model. Candidates in skilled sectors, including those in engineering and facilities management, register their next-move profile and specify exactly what would make a move worthwhile for them: pay, travel tolerance, training, progression, or on-call expectations. They are only contacted when an opportunity genuinely matches those criteria. This means Optio accesses a broader candidate market than job advertising alone, while respecting candidate privacy throughout.

What does employer offer intelligence mean in practice?

Employer offer intelligence is the structured data Optio holds about what employers in a given sector and geography are actually offering: base pay, benefits, travel requirements, shift patterns, and progression pathways. This allows employers to benchmark their offer against live market reality before going to market, and to understand where their offer may be a barrier to acceptance. In FM, for example, where travel expectations vary significantly across contract types, this intelligence can be the difference between a competitive offer and a declined one.

Which sectors does Optio work in?

Optio is built for skills-short sectors where qualified candidates are in work, selective, and largely unreachable through conventional job advertising. Current sectors include facilities management, engineering, field service, technical support, operations, and skilled trades.

Is Optio suitable for candidates who are actively looking for a new role?

Yes. Optio works for the full candidate market: actively looking, quietly open, and harder to reach through traditional advertising. Candidates who are actively seeking their next role benefit from being matched on what they actually want, not just job title and location, and from access to a structured profile that represents their priorities clearly to employers.
